The acrylic and oil paintings in this gallery consist of plein air and studio paintings. I enjoy painting outdoors (‘en plein air’) because my observations of the changing light, colors and weather inform me as an artist in ways that working from photographs cannot and become part of a skill set which I can apply to my studio paintings. Besides, being in nature with the birds and critters recharges my inner batteries!  To see the complete image and read a little description, click on each thumbnail. Invitation of Another Kind (sold)

Picture 21 of 27

For three years at an invitational paint out I did studies of this scene. I loved spending time in the quiet of the gardens, listening only to the singing birds while painting the early morning light as it filtered through the mist, brightening the colors with the hours. As I wanted to spend more time with this scene and the peace it stirred in me, I decided to do a larger studio painting. This scene is symbolic to me of what waits to speak to me in nature.
