Landscapes

The acrylic and oil paintings in this gallery consist of plein air and studio paintings. I enjoy painting outdoors (‘en plein air’) because my observations of the changing light, colors and weather inform me as an artist in ways that working from photographs cannot and become part of a skill set which I can apply to my studio paintings. Besides, being in nature with the birds and critters recharges my inner batteries!  To see the complete image and read a little description, click on each thumbnail. Rising Mist

Picture 11 of 27

As the mist rises from the warmth of this spring fed river, the colors begin their transition from faded pastels into vivid contrast. I have painted here several times, trying to capture that moment just before the colors “pop”. (24” x 18” oil on canvas)
